NAGA CITY: Tourist arrivals in five of the six provinces in Bicol significantly increased last year, from January-December 2011, compared to the more than two million recorded in 2010.
Bicol Regional Tourism Director Nini Ravanilla said tourist arrivals in five provinces of Bicol increased, even as she admitted that the official announcement would be made by the central office of the Department of Tourism.
Ravanilla said the DOT is waiting for Camarines Sur to submit its full report to complete the whole picture.
She said Camarines Sur with its soaring growth record of tourist arrivals the past consecutive years expects a growth rate from 7 per cent to 10 per cent growth.
"Camarines Sur has to break its own record, which can be very hard," Ravanilla mused referring to its having breached the one million mark as early as 2009.
In 2010, Camarines Sur and Naga City recorded 1,879,192 tourists visiting the province while the combined tourist arrival in six Bicol provinces that year was recorded at 2,480,928.
Ravanilla said Camarines Sur and Naga City were the fastest growing in the country in 2010.
